A wonderful and joyful lady, Anamarie passed away at her daughter's home in Florida on Thanksgiving evening, 2009. Anamarie, or Ann to many of her friends. was 89. She grew up in Richmond Hill, Queens, went to Our Lady of Wisdom high school in Ozone Park and graduated from St. Joseph's College in Brooklyn, where she majored in English. During World War II she worked for a time as a ticket agent at Penn Station for the Pennsylvania Railroad. She also corresponded with a soldier named Bill whom she had met before the war at the Barnes & Noble bookstore in Manhattan. When Bill returned from the war, they dated and soon married. They raised three children - Larry, Emory and Nanette. Anamarie began teaching elementary school at the Cenacle School in Richmond Hill, then became a math teacher at Christ the King High School and later in the Wantagh public schools, where she also taught computer science. Anamarie and Bill loved spending the summers on Shelter Island, where they built a home. After Bill passed away, Anamarie continued to spend summers there with her son Emory, and would winter in Florida at the home of her daughter, Nanette, and granddaughter, Courtney. Anamarie enjoyed volunteering at the Loggerhead Marine Life Center, where Nanette is executive director. Emory is a planning board member on Shelter Island and Larry is professor of English at Boston University.
