The Micro/NanoBio Systems Laboratory is interested in designing and fabricating point-of-caPre diagnostics and medical tools to make pathogen-screening easy and convenient outside a formal laboratory setting through the use of micro/nano systems technology. The most important advantages of BioMEMS (Biomedical MicroElectroMechanical Systems) are:
(1) Low cost through minimized sample and reagent consumption,
(2) High throughput analysis through multiple small patterns and automated procedures, and
(3) Numerous applications through integration of unique arrangement of scaled-down structures.
These properties have made BioMEMS attractive candidates to replace traditional experimental approaches.
Our current research topics are lab-on-a-chip technologies, embedded systems, and magnetic resonance (MR) microscopy to build portable pathogen screening tools.
