Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering Lab.

Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering

The main research focus of the tissue engineering and biomaterials laboratory is to developed the in-situ forming and injectable hydrogel, and is committed to the development of new polymeric biomaterials for the field of tissue engineering. Research topics include ophthalmic vitreous replacement, intervertebral disc regeneration, bone tissue engineering, and drug delivery systems. We have also successfully transferred related technologies to medical device companies, and continue to develop new biomedical materials for regenerative medicine.

Main research areas

The group’s main research focus is in processing of biodegradable biomaterials and characterization of microstructures and properties of them. We use our expertise to develop scaffolds for tissue engineering, surgical implants, smart hydrogels and drug delivery carriers. We do not claim to cover all possible clinical application areas, but focus our research to musculo-skeletal and ophthalmological tissue applications in which areas we work together with our partners.

Services for industry and academia

We also provide services for companies and academia in their research and product development in the suitable fields of biomaterials development. We have expertise in polymer and composite processing, in packaging and sterilization of medical devices, and characterization of biomaterials, especially biodegradable polymers and composites.
