Key Phrase: I am alive forever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and the grave.
Christ speaks to the Apostle John in the book of Revelation so John could share the revelation with God’s other servants. In Revelation Jesus appears to John who retells the story.
Revelation 1:17 When I saw him, I fell at his feet as if I were dead. But he laid his right hand on me and said, “Don’t be afraid! I am the First and the Last.
18 I am the living one. I died, but look—I am alive forever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and the grave.[[1]]
At the end of Revelation, John writes that Jesus says “I am coming soon!” three times to make certain we understand the message.
Revelation 22:7 “Look, I am coming soon! Blessed are those who obey the words of prophecy written in this book.[[2]]”
Revelation 22:12 “Look, I am coming soon, bringing my reward with me to repay all people according to their deeds. 13 I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.”
Revelation 22:20 He who is the faithful witness to all these things says, “Yes, I am coming soon!”

Recap: Here we are at the end of God’s redemption story. Let’s take a quick look back. First, God creates everything. He gives mankind one law which we could not keep. Next God sets in motion His plan to bring us back into relationship with Himself through three promises to Abraham - land, a big family and a blessing to the whole world.
God fulfills the first of the three promises to Abraham when he has a family in his old age. His family becomes a nation, God’s chosen people, who make their home in the “promised land” which is the second promise fulfilled. From these chosen people who live in the “promised land”, Christ is born to bless the whole world. The blessing of the third promise requires Christ to suffer and pay the price for what God finds most valuable – you. The third blessing to the whole world is Christ’s offer receive forgiveness of sins by turning to him.
Turning to Jesus offers the new promise of being with him always. Jesus left to prepare a place for us and He says “I am coming soon.” Jesus offers you adoption into his family. There’s nothing you can do to earn it because it is a gift. Each of us must decide what we will do with Jesus. Jesus says He is the only way to God. Jesus himself says “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.” And that my friend is the final Word, Alpha and Omega, beginning and end of the trail.
