OUR SPECIAL PROJECT

We have researched the history of the ship "Susanne Godeffroy", and the passengers who emigrated from Hamburg, Germany to Brisbane on the 1865 voyage. The aim of this research was to produce a book which not only told the history of this particular voyage, but also the story of the lives and fate of the 533 passengers who undertook this adventurous voyage to begin a new life here in Queensland. The ship " Susanne Godeffroy" left Hamburg on 06 May 1865 arriving Moreton Bay 06 September 1865.

We mainly focused on those from the ship and down to the first generation born in Australia, but welcome more information if you care to give us, as it is amazing how many times in later generations that there is a connection between families.

We would be very interested in any information, photos, family stories, certificates, old German Documents, where they settled and when and where they married, died etc. Basically, anything that will help to bring these people to life, with the understanding that the information may be included in our proposed book.

We published the book late in 2016, which not only commemorated the 150th Anniversary of the ships arrival, but also serve as a 'Snap Shot' of early Queensland History. The book highlight many before unrecorded events and insights into the daily lives of over 530 German and Scandinavian emigrants to Queensland.

Keep watching this site for further information regarding the release of our book. March 2016
