Resources for Families

Families suffering from the loss or serious illness of an infant may struggle to cope with grief. As individuals, we all deal with grief somewhat differently. Ben's Buddies was formed in part to help Ben's family and friends to celebrate his life even though he had passed away, acknowledging that his life has continued meaning for them and working to help prevent his fate from befalling future infants through support of research and education in newborn medicine.

This method of publicly shared grief may not be for everyone. Fortunately there are many resources available to families in Minnesota and across the United States to help families with their grief.  Ben's Buddies encourages those suffering with grief to join its community and attend its events if appropriate for them, or to utilize one of the resources below to find support. Often, local infant and pregnancy loss grief support groups can be located by speaking to the social worker at your local hospital. - Click here to read about Ben's inspiring journey on, a free site for families to use to update friends and family via a blog structure. When a loved one is in the hospital, its often hard for primary caregivers to share their feelings and update friends and family. Loved ones are left to wonder how the patient is, and caregivers may be too physically and emotionally exhausted to call.

Healing Quilt - Children's Hospitals and Clinics of the Twin Cities offers many services for bereaved parents and siblings through this group.

Faith's Lodge - provides a place where parents and families facing the serious illness or loss of a child can retreat to reflect on the past, renew strength for the present and build hope for the future. It is located near Webster, Wisconsin.  Faith's lodge also maintains a resource page with links to many other organizations that can help.
