Evaluations

“Dr. Gaines' enthusiasm for math is so contagious, that he made me actively engaged in the lesson every day. I liked how he had the lecture slides available prior to the lecture period so that I had the opportunity to print them out and write supplemental information on them so that I would not waste class time and be distracted by copying down from the slides he shows to the class. He was also always available whenever I stopped by his office (even when it was outside of the allotted office hours and he was busy). He explained difficult concepts in a variety of ways so that if I did not understand it one way, I understood how to complete the problem in a different way.”

Below is a summary of the quantitative and qualitative student evaluations received in my first 5 years as an Assistant Professor at Iona College. These include a wide variety of Core and Upper Level courses.

My Course Evaluations for the classes where I was the primary instructor at Duke University are included below. In particular, I would like to draw attention to the evaluations for both intellectual stimulation, and value of instructor feedback. I feel that the marked improvements over time in these areas is evidence that my methods of assessment and instruction are successful in developing students' basic ability, and engaging them with the material.
