Chris Belyea is the Principal and sole practitioner. He is a Registered Patent Attorney, has a PhD in physics and is a Fellow of the Institute of Patent and Trade Mark Attorneys of Australia.

He graduated from the University of Melbourne with a Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree majoring in Physics, in 1979, achieving first class honours and equal top position amongst his peers. He spent several years working in industry in the 1980's gaining experience in computer control software and artificial intelligence applied to energy management, mining and the steel industry. In 1988 he returned to the University of Melbourne as a postgraduate and in 1990 was awarded a PhD in physics.

In 1991 he joined Griffith Hack, one of Australia's largest intellectual property firms, and qualified as a patent attorney in 1994. In 1996 he entered the life sciences industry and was responsible for assisting, managing and listing on the stock exchange several technology companies. He was a founding non-executive director of Antisense Therapeutics Limited (ASX:ANP) serving from 2001 until 2015.

In 2007 he began consulting as an intellectual property specialist in renewable energy and other industries and formed Belyea IP patent attorney services in 2009.
