Welcome to the   Belper Meadows Bowls Club   website
Who we are

We are a small, friendly, Crown Green Bowls Club.
The club is, itself, part of the
Belper Meadows Community Sports Club, which also has Cricket, Tennis and Hockey (both Men's & Ladies) sections.

Despite being close to the centre of Belper, we are fortunate to be located in one of the most peaceful and picturesque places in the County.

In 2018 the Club will again be running  eleven  teams
(
3 Ladies, 2 Men's and 6 Mixed),
and
it also has a program of club competitions, social events
 and social bowling.

New members are always welcome

Where to Find us

Belper is 8 miles north of Derby on the A6.

Access to the green is off the A6, close to the traffic lights at the junction with the A517 (to Ashbourne),
at 'The Triangle'. Travelling north on the A6, take the left turn immediately before the traffic lights, then turn immediately left down the side of Christ Church, following the unmade road alongside Belper Town FC to the Belper Meadows Sports Club (the Bowls Club is to the right, behind the pavilion and adjacent to the tennis courts).

The map/ satellite image below shows the location of the bowling green.
The map is searchable- you can zoom in or out (mouse-wheel or +/- buttons),
or move the centre of the map by dragging it. (you may find it helpful to delete the label on the map first, by clicking on the map)

Club News

Club Competitions & Events

The next club event will be the Charity Day on Sunday 5th August, starting at 1.00pm.

The Club Singles Merit and the Horace White Pairs competitions, due to be played on Sundays 13th May and 17th June respectively, were postponed due to to the unfinished pavilion; new dates will be fixed shortly.

Fred Bott Doubles

Sunday 22nd July saw the first opportunity to hold a club competition in 2018, as it was the first time that the new Club Room was available. The Fred Bott Doubles herald-in the new era with a smaller than average number of club members competing, others perhaps not relishing being out in the continuing hot sunny weather all day.
From the round-robin phase, Vi Clayton & Terry Fletcher defeated Jean Griffin & Keith Turner in one semi-final, while Chris Hayton & Gerry Adair defeated Sandra Hannah & Graham Sheldon in the other.
The final saw Chris & Gerry complete a 21-15 victory over Vi & Terry. Photos to follow.

Pavilion Development

The pavilion is now being used, as building work as such is complete. The final works on the paviion are expected to be completed by mid-August and then we will have a facility to be proud of. We appreciate the support of our members over what has been a very difficult pavilion-free season so far.

2018 Spring Bank Holiday Open Doubles

The annual competition took place on Spring Bank Holiday Monday, 28th May.
The full compliment of competitors was present, representing a spread from Burton to Chesterfield. Some previous winners were first round casualties, and, as is often the case, the competition was lit up by excellent bowling from less expected quarters.
In the semi-finals, Alan Bingham & Keith Needham defeated Ami & Martin Stone-Payne, while Ian Eaton & David Allsop defeated Gayle & Colin Riley.
Ian & David then won the final, on what was, by then, a very fast green. Photos

Photo Gallery

We are grateful to Terry Fletcher for the many photos he has taken over recent seasons. View them (and many others) in the Photo Gallery; there are photos from competitions, league matches and general bowling.
