Welcome to the   Belper Meadows Bowls Club   website
Who we are

We are a small, friendly, Crown Green Bowls Club.
The club is, itself, part of the
Belper Meadows Community Sports Club, which also has Cricket, Tennis and Hockey (both Men's & Ladies) sections.

Despite being close to the centre of Belper, we are fortunate to be located in one of the most peaceful and picturesque places in the County.

The pandenic has created a great deal of uncertainty for members about being members of teams. As a result the committee has decided to run only 5 teams in 2021, assuming league fixtures actually start, with the hope of returning to something like our normal schedule in 2022.
We hope to run
a program of club competitions, social events
 and social bowling.

New members are always welcome

Club Contacts

There is a separate page giving details of the Club Secretary,

Where to Find us

Belper is 8 miles north of Derby on the A6.

Access to the green is off the A6, close to the traffic lights at the junction with the A517 (to Ashbourne),
at 'The Triangle'. Travelling north on the A6, take the left turn immediately before the traffic lights, then turn immediately left down the side of Christ Church, following the unmade road alongside Belper Town FC to the Belper Meadows Sports Club (the Bowls Club is to the right, behind the pavilion and adjacent to the tennis courts).

The map/ satellite image below shows the location of the bowling green.
The map is searchable- you can zoom in or out (mouse-wheel or +/- buttons),
or move the centre of the map by dragging it. (you may find it helpful to delete the label on the map first, by clicking on the map)

Club News

Irene Silkstone RIP
It was with great sadness that we learnt that Irene Silkstone passed away in the early hours of 6th July 2021. She had been battling a rare and aggressive  throat cancer in recent months.

Irene and Steve joined the club in 2016 and quickly became very active members, always willing to lend a hand whenever a job needed doing. Irene took over as Treasurer in 2018 and remained in post until her health declined in early 2021.

Irene will be remembered as a lively, fun loving personality who lived life to the full. Her enthusiasm rubbed off on those around her. She will be greatly missed.

Details of funeral arrangements will be posted when available.

The Club would like to express heartfelt sympathies to Steve and the family.

Irene's funeral will take place on Friday 23rd July at 11am at Amber Valley Memorial Park and Crematorium, Derby Rd, Swanwick, Derby DE551BH.

2021 Club Singles Competition

Due to the ongoing pandemic, the Committee decided against holding any of the traditional Club all-day competitions, but Terry Fletcher generously organised a singles competition, or rather three separate competitons, to include all members who wished to be involved. It was split on different days, and only involved afternoon bowling.

The results were:
Group 1
Winner:     Sandra Hannah          Runner-up:   Cavan Carey
Group 2
Winner:     Lesley England           Runner-up:   Bob Smith
Group 3
Winner:     Alan Ward                 Runner -up:  Terry Fletcher
