Welcome to the   Belper Meadows Bowls Club   website
Who we are

We are a small, friendly, Crown Green Bowls Club.
The club is, itself, part of the
Belper Meadows Community Sports Club, which also has Cricket, Tennis and Hockey (both Men's & Ladies) sections.

Despite being close to the centre of Belper, we are fortunate to be located in one of the most peaceful and picturesque places in the County.

In 2020 the Club will be running  twelve  teams
(
3 Ladies, 2 Men's and 7 Mixed),
and
it also has a program of club competitions, social events
 and social bowling.

New members are always welcome

Where to Find us

Belper is 8 miles north of Derby on the A6.

Access to the green is off the A6, close to the traffic lights at the junction with the A517 (to Ashbourne),
at 'The Triangle'. Travelling north on the A6, take the left turn immediately before the traffic lights, then turn immediately left down the side of Christ Church, following the unmade road alongside Belper Town FC to the Belper Meadows Sports Club (the Bowls Club is to the right, behind the pavilion and adjacent to the tennis courts).

The map/ satellite image below shows the location of the bowling green.
The map is searchable- you can zoom in or out (mouse-wheel or +/- buttons),
or move the centre of the map by dragging it. (you may find it helpful to delete the label on the map first, by clicking on the map)

Club News

Deceased Members
It is with great sadness that we announce the deaths of two of our members, Owen Ratcliffe and  Derek Storer.
Owen Ratcliffe died peacefully on 20th June 2020, at the age of 84. He had served on the club Management Committee, and captained two of our teams.
Derek Storer passed away on15th June 2020, at the age of 83. By chance, Derek also had captained two of our teams and served on the Management Committee.

Our thoughts and sympathies go to Jean and Delia and her family at this time.

Following the easing of the lockdown regulations, members should have received an email/ letter from the Secretary about the use of the bowls green. A reminder that play is strictly by booking only, through the Secretary, with a maximum of 2 players, in a match. Up to 3 matches may take place at the same time.
Members will be aware that the Government  instructed most sports facilities to close, and particularly all multi-sports centres. The pavilion, including the toilets, therefore remains unavailable, except for maintenance work, etc, until further notice.

 Flooding November 2019 & February 2020

In November the flood water was over 5 feet deep across our site (about 18 inches deep in the pavilion) and almost 3 feet in February..
So November was worse: Tremendous effort from members has enabled the pavilion to be brought back into use, although it will take time to dry out thoroughly. Unfortunately outside it was a different matter. All our equipment was badly affected, but most is back in working order.
One very obvious need is to replace the cushions ruined by the flood. Any cushions will be gratefully received, as will things which can be converted into cushions, such as old duvets and quilts.
In order to record the flood, an album has been set up and members are invited to add their own photos to it, particularly those showing the clean-up operation.
A link to this, and to Terry's photos, and also to drone footage, togther with other photos, can be found at: 2019 Floods

We are grateful to Terry Fletcher for the many photos he has taken over recent seasons. View them (and many others) in the Photo Gallery; there are photos from competitions, league matches and general bowling.
