Welcome to the   Belper Meadows Bowls Club   website
Who we are

We are a small, friendly, Crown Green Bowls Club.
The club is, itself, part of the
Belper Meadows Community Sports Club, which also has Cricket, Tennis and Hockey (both Men's & Ladies) sections.

Despite being close to the centre of Belper, we are fortunate to be located in one of the most peaceful and picturesque places in the County.

In 2018 the Club will again be running  eleven  teams
(
3 Ladies, 2 Men's and 6 Mixed),
and
it also has a program of club competitions, social events
 and social bowling.

New members are always welcome

Club Contacts

There is a separate page giving details of the Club Secretary,
other Club Officials and Team Captains:

Where to Find us

Belper is 8 miles north of Derby on the A6.

Access to the green is off the A6, close to the traffic lights at the junction with the A517 (to Ashbourne),
at 'The Triangle'. Travelling north on the A6, take the left turn immediately before the traffic lights, then turn immediately left down the side of Christ Church, following the unmade road alongside Belper Town FC to the Belper Meadows Sports Club (the Bowls Club is to the right, behind the pavilion and adjacent to the tennis courts).

The map/ satellite image below shows the location of the bowling green.
The map is searchable- you can zoom in or out (mouse-wheel or +/- buttons),
or move the centre of the map by dragging it. (you may find it helpful to delete the label on the map first, by clicking on the map)

Club News

Presentation Evening & Dinner

The club Dinner & Presentation Evening will take place on Saturday 17th November, at the Lion Inn, Belper. Details and booking arrangements will be available shortly.

Bowls Club AGM

The Bowls Club AGM will take place in the new pavilion (upstairs) on

Thursday 25th October at 7.30.

Please support your committee by being present at the meeting and taking part in the discussions about how to get the best out of our new facilities and run the club in future.

Bowling during the winter

The bowling green will close after the final home match of the season on 19th September, to allow for essential maintenance- this summer has not been kind to it as we know.

For those interested, the club has rinks booked at the Alfreton Indoor Bowls Centre on Monday & Thursday mornings, and also has teams taking part in leagues there. Details are on the club notice board, or contact Lynne Marples for further details.

Club Competitions & Events

The final club event of the season was the Bowls Drive on Sunday 16th September. This is a fun event for saw 22 members taking part, a lovely way to end the season.

The lack of a pavilion has meant that few club competiitons have taken place this season, and one of those was badly affected by the one bit of bad weather to hit Belper, so has been completed over a several weeks. In the most recent competitions, Terry Fletcher has continued an excellent run of form. In the Quila Trophy on 9th September, Terry and Lynne Marples won through to the final, with Terry triumphing, and in a much delayed final of the Tony Platts Rose Bowls, played two days later, he and Janet Fletcher defeated Jack Laven and Alan Ward.

Belper Ladies Team

Congratulations to our Ladies team in the Belper & Mid Derbyshire Association League who, on 9 August won the League Cup, beating Denby 143-128 at Littleover. The photo shows captain Janet Fletcher with her victorious team.

 Pavilion Development

We appreciate the support of our members over what has been a very difficult largely pavilion-free season. By the time our 2019 season starts, the pavilion will be fully operational, and internal works we are commissioning should be complete.

A reminder that by next season access to the site and pavilion will be by the electronic key fob only, so members who may need individual access will need to order the fobs, as they are made available (in batches) from the Sports Club. Please contact Alan Ward if you want one ordering..

Photo Gallery

We are grateful to Terry Fletcher for the many photos he has taken over recent seasons. View them (and many others) in the Photo Gallery; there are photos from competitions, league matches and general bowling.
