All elected leaders are expected to be active in our Troop, set a good example in behavior, attend Troop meetings and wear our uniform properly. SPL, ASPL, Scribe, and Patrol Leaders must attend the PLC. Leaders who cannot attend must find another Scout to represent them.
Senior Patrol Leader: The SPL is in charge of troop meetings. He chairs meetings of the Patrol Leaders’ Council. The PLC plans troop activities and programs. The Senior Patrol Leader’s job is to see that the troop runs in an orderly and timely manner. Requirements: 14 years old or older and Star rank or higher.
Tasks for Troop 34: Facilitate Troop Meetings (or appoint someone to run the meeting in their absence); facilitate PLC Meetings; manage troop outings and camp-outs including carpools, patrol tenting locations, campfire program schedules, and activity schedules;
Assistant Senior Patrol Leader: The ASPL helps the senior patrol leader lead meetings and activities. He runs the troop in the absence of the SPL. He helps train and supervise the troop scribe, quartermaster, instructors, librarian, historian and chaplain aide. Requirements: 14 years old or older and Star rank or higher.
Patrol Leader: The Patrol Leader is the elected leader of his patrol. He represents his patrol at the Patrol Leader’s Council. He plans and leads patrol meetings, helps members of his patrol advance and keeps patrol members informed about Troop activities.
Assistant Patrol Leader: The APL assists the Patrol Leader in all of his jobs. If the Patrol Leader is absent, the APL serves in the Patrol Leader’s place. Appointed by the Patrol Leader.
Scribe: The Scribe is the troop’s secretary. He attends the Patrol Leaders’ Council and keeps notes of the discussions. He is not a voting member of the PLC. During Troop meetings he records attendance and dues payments.
Tasks for Troop 34: Keep records and notes of PLC and Troop Meetings; keep Troop bulletin board up-to-date with council, district and troop notices; record attendance from meetings and ensure that it is entered into record. Aided by Troop Committee Secretary.
Quartermaster: The Quartermaster is responsible for Troop supplies and equipment. He keeps a current inventory of troop equipment and makes sure it is in good condition. He works with Patrol QMs as they check out and return equipment. He reports to the Patrol Leaders’ Council on equipment needing replacement or repair.
Tasks for Troop 34: Take inventory of troop gear that remains in the trailer, keeping it stocked and in good repair; keeps inventory of troop gear in the basement; submits periodic needs/shopping lists to restock or repair items; Aided by the Troop Committee Equipment Chair.
Chaplain Aide: The Chaplain Aide assists the troop in religious services. He says grace at meals. He plans and leads Scouts Own service on camp outs. He promotes the religious emblems program.
Librarian: The Troop Librarian oversees the care and use of Troop books, pamphlets and magazines. Scouts check out and return Troop material from the Librarian. The Librarian keeps records to ensure everything is returned. He suggests new material and reports the need to repair or replace material. Aided by Troop Committee Librarian.
Historian: The Historian collects and preserves troop photographs, news stories, trophies, flags, scrapbooks, awards and other memorabilia. He is responsible to publish the Troop newsletter.
Tasks for Troop 34: Reorganize and maintain troop photos, creating a digital library; reorganize troop documents; keep troop trophy case clean and organized; Assist with The Scoutmaster’s Minute newsletter. Aided by the Scoutmaster.
Webmaster: Troop webmasters are responsible for maintaining the troop’s website. They make sure that information posted on the website is correct and up to date and that the privacy of youth and adult troop members is protected.
Tasks for Troop 34: Collect photos from outings for use on the website; Assist with The Scoutmaster’s Minute newsletter. Create a website or social media site for the troo. Aided by the Troop Secretary and Scoutmaster.
Bugler: Makes appropriate bugle calls at troop outings and activities. Promotes Scout Spirit through music.
Den Chief: Serves as a guide to Cub Scouts in a particular den or pack; encourages Cub Scouts to continue in Scouting; acts as a teaching assistant at den meetings; assists with group management at meetings, camp-outs and outings. Appointed by the SPL, Scoutmaster, Cubmaster & Pack Committee.
Troop Guide: Introduces new Scouts to troop operations and guides them through early Scouting activities; Serves as a coach to the patrol leader of the new-Scout patrol and works with him at patrol leaders' council meetings. Requirements: An older Scout who holds at least the First Class rank and can work well with younger Scouts. Appointed by the SPL and Scoutmaster.
