This is a car trip around our old haunts. With several classmates per car decode the rhymes and take a group picture at the location. Forward your pictures to Sheldon Yamasaki seedieman@gmail.com before Saturday's dinner.
Can you see the big spires in the sky
And inside, view the pipes with your eye,
On a hot summer day, you could do a float
Down the canal that went around like a moat.
Before you had a license to drive
This place was such a wonderful dive
Wait in line at lunch to request your food
"Cherry Pie With" -- mm, mm, good!
Was your favorite "Romeo and Juliet"
Or maybe Steve McQueen in "Bullitt"
Have some popcorn, take a seat,
Careful, watch out, you'll get sticky feet.
"B"e careful, "B"e prepared, "B"eware of snakes,
"B"e sure that you won't pass any lakes,
"B"e ready, the hike is within your sights,
"B"e watchful at Homecoming, for the lights.
Warned about hobos, mom said to stay away,
They rode the rails and came for just a day,
But if we went for a trip away from home,
We caught it here, hoping to ride in the dome.
Were you ever able to eat the special 'Walt Mann'?
Or was your preference just a chocolate malt, man!!!
A hamburger, fries, and Iron Port or Lime Rickey,
Watch Out! The speed bumps they added were freaky.
'Welcome', it says, to one and all who pass by,
Years later, as we return, we don't want to lie.
But who has actually made a trip out to the west?
To the 'World's Greates Wild Bird Refuge', pass the test!!!
We started downstairs, when we were young.
Picture ones were how we had first begun.
Then upstairs for sci fi, romance and mystery.
No internet here's how we researched our history.
A World War II soldier standing day after day.
Representing the many who had passed away.
Since before our time, in bronze he has stood.
Looking afar down the street named for wood.
Remember when your tray went by along a track.
And you wondered if your fried chicken would make it back.
Eating inside this place would have been a treat.
But the turkey burger at the drive-in couldn't be beat.
Grey monuments to our ancestors all lined in a row.
Some tall, some short, look for Lorenzo Snow.
Southwest area, not too far from 300 East.
An LDS President, a tribute to say the least.
