Begin With Books receives $30K challenge grant to give books to children in 29403

June 21, 2012. The Charleston nonprofit that provides free books to preschool children has received a $30,000 challenge grant to launch its biggest expansion yet. BEGIN WITH BOOKS, Charleston County’s affiliate of Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, must raise $34,000 from the community, helping it to serve the nearly 1,400 children under 5 who live in the 29403 ZIP code.“This is a way of promoting literacy when it’s needed most, so when children start kindergarten, they hit the ground running,” said Melissa VandeWiel, a Johns Island resident who has two children enrolled in the program.....
