Wiki' wiki is an Index of other wiki sites and useful blogs, websites or pages which help understand Linux better.
In Linux world, we are often looking for something on net. Many times we get unexpected good links while browsing. We find many good information on the net, but not all is found in one place. What one can generally do is to bookmark it or email the links, blog about it or maintain a doc or spreadsheet using google docs. But that's not convenient to organize and manage . So what more can be done? After some time, I may have a good list of how-tos, manuals. You know the trouble you took to find the stuff you need. For this purpose, there is a special software that focuses on creating a structured document - A Wiki. That's why I created it :) . This Wiki is aimed at new Linux Converts and End Users. Since generally Ubuntu is the first choice, first thing to do is to fetch contents related to Ubuntu and it's derivatives.
In one line it can be defined as: Accumulating Scattered Gems!
Rather than re-inventing the wheel, why not just give a link to a useful resource and describe in brief what the link talks about and how much useful it is. It's basically an Index of wikis how-tos and manuals.
I do not have enough links to cover all topics. What if you want to share it with the world so that others can save their precious time in searching and enjoy more time with OS. What if You want to maintain it for the good of all. What can be done? It's time for
Now the above para and change 'you' with 'we' - does it sound good? Do we share same line of thinking? If yes than, lets collaborate ! Drop me a mail sujal.u[at]gmail.com. Wiki is perfect for collaborative documentation. With your support, we can attempt to create an Index, a one stop place for all wikis and how-tos. We also intend to give brief info about the links we will be posting.
Brief info may contain:
Name of Linux Distro, with / without code name
Version number
Architecture: 32 / 64 bit
DE (Desktop Environment)
Description of Link
e.g. Linux Mint 13, 32 bit, Xfce or Linux Mint Maya, 32 bit, Xfce
We need to collect this data so that the info remains effective and does not become out-dated.
If you wish to contribute actively in this project, please contact us. Please note that this is a voluntary project that we do it in free time. We do not intend to make it commercial at any time. We do not have any ad-sense account.
So what are the rules to your wiki? well there arn't any :). 'Rule' sound too formal. Rather I would like to share my
Don't be over-ambitious. This is just a part time project that I took in free time. Getting abmotious means having sleepless nights, stress and tension. I do not want any one of these. Do you ? Lets just walk slow and steady like a tortoise. Think only that much which allows you to work. This implies that there is
when you join this project. Do not think that you need to be regularly active, though I will be very happy if you volunteer to maintain this Wiki and keep adding useful stuff. You can contribute by giving one useful link. House is build brick by brick. Every brick counts. lets
Keeping Relevant content is tedious. There are loads of tutorials, tips and tricks, tweaks available on net. We cannot index them all. So better not pour in all the info we have, but select the most obvious questions that a new convert will have e.g. 'how to check md5sum' and 'how to create a bootable USB drive'.
A Picture is worth thousand words. Go for article having more screenshots.

Ok. Got it. So what's the
Initially, we intend to collect all info for All Ubuntu based distros. Later for Debian and debian based distros and fedora and rpm based distros. It all depends upon how much time we are able to dedicate and your response. It all depends upon how well things go in future.
