We are a no cut sport, and we are very much willing to teach you how to swim safely as well as become proficient in the sport.
For the 2024/2025 season, the Head Coach for Beaverton is Chris Gerber. He can be reached here: chrisg284599@gmail.com.
Coaches Assistant- Meet Coordinator: Joe Schoen can be reached here: joe.schoen@comcast.net.
About The Coach: I have been with the BHS swim program for nine years now, with an additional four as a swimmer for the team. I am going to be completing my student teaching to acquire my teaching certificate this year, and as a result, may take at least a couple of days to respond to emails. I apologize in advance for any inconviniece this may cause. My goals for this season are to continue growing the team size, and to get us on track to participate in meets outside of just the Metro league.I am a huge fan of student involvement and will be pushing for our team captains to take an active leadership role in fostering the team for the years to come. Expect many asks for parent help this year as I would like to set up a pot-luck or two, and we are also in charge of the hospitality room at the district meet this year. I am so glad to be getting the opportunity to work with so many excellent students and families!
2024-2025 Preseason Info: We are holding a preseason this year in an effort to help our newer swimmers get some more time in the water, as well as to get our seasonal swimmers back into shape a little earlier this year. The dates are the 4th,6th,7th,13th, and14th of November from 3:45-5:25 pm at the Beaverton Pool. It is expected that all students attend these practices. If you have a time conflict with your other sports please let me know and we will work something out.
2024-2025 Main Season Info: Our practices will be held from 7:15-9 pm at the Beaverton Pool. I understand this is not the optimal time slot for some of our students. If getting to practice will be a struggle please reach out and we will try to help set up carpools. As a result of this time slot, I recommend students eat dinner no later than 6 pm, with a snack eaten after practice. I understand there will be times this will not be possible, but swimming on a full or empty stomach will not allow most students to work at their best.
Welcome to the Beaverton High School Swim Team. Thank you for choosing swimming as your winter sport. It is the goal of this program to provide you with an opportunity to reach your potential as a student/athlete. Every member of the team is valuable to the success of the program. Swimming requires a strong work ethic, dedication to excellence and a positive attitude. There are no “bench warmers” in swimming, which gives each team member an opportunity to compete in every swim meet. Personal improvement should always be the goal of each swimmer and the coaching staff is dedicated to that end! We are looking forward to this season!

Varsity Lettering Policy
Practice attendance: Each swimmer is required to attend 5 practices per week. Each swimmer is to arrive on time and be ready to swim. Excessive, (2 or more per week) late arrivals to practice will result in losing one practice. Swim meets count toward the 5 per week practice requirement. Subject to change.
Swim Meet Participation/Varsity Events: Participation in all swim meets is required. A swimmer will be given Varsity status if they swim on 1 scoring Varsity relay each meet and/or 1 Varsity individual event per meet.
Attitude/Sportsmanship: Courteous treatment of teammates, opposing teams and coaches is expected of each swimmer. Inappropriate language will not be tolerated. Approach each practice/meet with a personal goal in mind in order to make each practice and meet meaningful. Support your teammates at all times. Give 100% each day!
Swim Meets: In order for us to run our home meets efficiently we will need parents to volunteer to fill the positions listed below. No experience is necessary. We apologize for the multiple times and locations, pool space has been very limited this year (All of this information will be on the calendar). Thank you in advance for your support.
1. Head Timer: This person assists the other timers. They have two watches running during a race in case someone has a watch malfunction.
2. 12 Timers: We are required to have 2 timers per lane. This is a great opportunity to have a front row seat at the meets. It involves starting and stopping a stopwatch and recording the swimmer’s time on their entry card. No experience needed. We will train!
3. 1 Runner: This person picks up the entry cards from the timers after each race and takes them to the scorer’s table for tabulation.
4. 1-2 Score Keepers: This person(s) keeps score for both teams involved in the meet. Sorts the entry cards and returns them to the respective teams.
5. Starter, announcer and stroke/ turn officials: Any parent who is a certified US Official is urged to fill these positions. However, if any parent has any experience in these areas, your help would be greatly appreciated. Contact the head coach if you can help.
