WHAT IS THE HISTORY OF ALPHA PHI SIGMA?

Originally established in January 1942 the honor society has a purpose of promoting excellence in scholarship and performance among students actively engaged in collegiate preparation for professional services, to keep abreast of the advances in scientific research, to elevate the ethical standards of the criminal-justice professions. and to establish in the public mind the benefit and necessity of higher education and professional training for women and men. The credo of Alpha Phi Sigma, as it was originally stated, is: “He Who Perseveres Succeeds.” It should now read: “Those Who Persevere Succeed.”

WHAT IS THE HISTORY OF THE UNG BETA OMEGA CHAPTER?

On December 20, 1999, through the efforts of Ferris Byxbe, the criminal-justice section of the Department of Political Science and Criminal Justice at what was then called "North Georgia College & State University" was granted a charter for the "Beta Omega" chapter. Alpha Phi Sigma is the only Criminal Justice Honor Society for criminal-justice majors. It is a nationally recognized honor society that has over 170 chapters from coast to coast. The society recognizes academic excellence by undergraduate and graduate students of criminal justice.
