In my particular case, it seemed to be a corrupted Internet Explorer profile, and I was able to fix it by opening REGEDIT.
I deleted the key
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer].
Then, logging off and back on; upon logging back on, I opened the Internet Explorer and everything came back to work normally.
Of course, as a safeguard, I recommend to Export the key for backup before completely getting rid of it.
