Satoshi Funabashi is a Lecturer at Ogata Laboratory, Waseda University, Japan. His education includes a Ph.D., M.Eng. and B.Eng. from Waseda University under the supervision of Shigeki Sugano. He leads a robotics research group at Waseda University, with a primary focus on multi-fingered manipulation and tactile sensing. His research aims to realize dexterous manipulation by leveraging deep neural networks in conjunction with multimodal tactile sensing systems inspired by human sensorimotor principles. In particular, he investigates the design of neural architectures that emulate the efficiency and structure of human information processing in manipulation tasks. He has been affiliated with Waseda University for over a decade and have also conducted research as a visiting intern at MIT CSAIL. In parallel, He serves as Chief Researcher at FingerVision Inc., where he leads the development and deployment of tactile sensor-based robotic manipulation systems in industrial settings, including food processing and assembly operations.
Key words: Multi-fingered hands, object manipulation and recognition, tactile sensing, deep learning, human mimetics, morphology adaptation.
