Welcome information

Barton & Myerscough Tennis Club

Welcome to membership at Barton & Myerscough Tennis Club we hope you enjoy your membership and manage to get the best out of the club to meet your individual/family needs.

Below is some information which may help you to do this.

Diary Card

Once you have paid for your membership you will have been given a diary card with the names and contact details of some members of the club as well as dates of some events.

Keys

If you are a family member, adult, college, chaperone, social or a junior member of secondary school age you will have been given a key for the outside gate and the clubhouse. Primary school age junior members will only have a key for the court as members under secondary school age are not allowed in the clubhouse without an adult.

In the clubhouse hung up at the side of the door is a key for the field gate of the south court to help you get tennis balls that have gone over the netting.

Balls

Used balls are available in the clubhouse for practice play.

Visitors

Visitors are welcome and should be entered into the lights book so fees can be claimed from the relevant member later in the season. (Fees are on the diary card.)

Club activities

Club nights

For members over 16 from approximately April 1st until Sept 30th club nights are held every Monday and Thursday from 6.30pm. Just turn up and 4’s are organised. The usual routine is that the 4 changes after every set and if people are waiting short sets are played (if a deuce is reached the couple winning the first point of the deuce, gain the game).

For juniors a club session is often arranged from 5.30 – 6.30pm on a Thursday with the opportunity for juniors of secondary age to stay on the courts until 7.30 if only a few seniors are playing.

Lights

Switches for lights are in the cupboard to the right of the sink. The cost of lights is displayed in the clubhouse.

On club nights and for matches lighting is free, at all other times enter the readings at the beginning and end of your session in the notebook provided near the sink and the name of who owes the money; the treasurer will collect these from time to time by writing a list of money owed on the senior board.

Matches

Members wishing to be considered for the teams, junior or senior, should contact a relevant team captain or a junior coordinator; their names are on the diary card and also up in the clubhouse. The club is involved in the Ribble League. Alternatively just mention this on a club night.

During the summer from mid-April until mid-August courts are used for senior matches on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings from about 6.00pm. From late April until mid-July junior matches are held on a Sunday morning from 9.45 am to about 1.00pm.

Other matches may occasionally be held at the club and these will be displayed in the clubhouse. Mid-September and October autumn league matches may often be on the courts on a Saturday and Sunday morning from 9.45am – 1.00pm approx.

Club Tournaments

Senior tournaments are open to anyone over 16 just look on the notice board and sign up. Doubles are held on a set date as shown in your diary card. Singles have to be played by set dates as shown once the draw is displayed.

There are a range of social tennis tournament events for adults, please sign up. Juniors also have some events organised.

For a trial period in 2012 secondary age juniors are invited to enter the adult singles competitions.

Personal play

Feel free to use the courts at any time club events are not organised. Used match balls are available in the clubhouse as is a net measure. If the courts are damp brushes are available for sweeping the courts.

Coaching

Coaching sessions are available to juniors on a Friday early evening for additional cost payable to the coach. Specific information on the junior board in the clubhouse.

Toilets

The toilets are shared with the bowling club and keys are available in the club house. Please ensure the doors are locked on leaving the club. Toilet rolls are available in the clubhouse cupboard.

Club Maintenance

The club is run by players so please contribute to the general upkeep e.g. move litter from the courts, empty full bins either to the large bins at the back of the village hall or into the recycling bins as appropriate.

Bin liners etc. can be found in a cupboard.

At the beginning of every season a maintenance morning and occasionally a working party is involved in upkeep. Help is welcome.

Enjoy your membership and do contact any committee member if you have any queries.
