Barneleikarringen of Greater Seattle

Nordic folk dancing for children and families.  We learn and perform traditional dances and music from all the Nordic countries: Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, and Iceland.  This is fun dancing for kids and adults, almost always with live music.

Please join us two Sundays a month.  We start at 1:30 with everyone together, and then sometimes split the group to give the older kids (age 8 and up) an opportunity to learn some more challenging dances while the younger ones (plus new members) work on easier favorites. We dance till 2:30 PM, then have some snacks and socialize until about 2:45 PM.  After a few minutes on the playground (to get the wiggles out) come learn to play the music from 3:00 - 4:00 PM. If you play fiddle, nyckelharpa, accordion, guitar, bass, or other traditional instrument, come join in the fun. We'll play tunes for the Barneleikarringen dances, listening tunes, and other "just for fun" dance tunes.

Our normal location for the 2017-2018 school year has changed to the Swedish Cultural Center, due to the upcoming NHM move. We may also meet at other locations listed below, be sure to check the calendar for locations for specific dates. Our practice season is from mid-September through mid-June, with a break during December.

Sign up your child here on the website or send us an email to get on our mailing list to be informed about meeting dates and locations.
