Fall 2015 - 2nd and 4th Sundays

Post date: Sep 13, 2015 4:14:00 PM

The 2015-16 season of Barneleikarringen of Greater Seattle begins on Sunday, September 13th at the Nordic Heritage Museum, 3014 NW 67th Street in Seattle.

Please ask the receptionist where to find us.

Older/more experienced kids should be there are ready to dance at 1:15 PM, younger kids should be ready to dance at 1:45 PM. We'll dance till 2:30, then have snacks until 2:45. We're trying to keep challenging our older kids with some harder dances first.

Again this year we are providing an opportunity to learn to play the music. After snacks and maybe a few minutes on the playground, we'll play music from 3:00 to 4:00 PM, at the same location. If you play fiddle, nyckelharpa, accordion, guitar, bass, or other traditional instrument, come join us. We'll start with tunes for the dancing, but will also work on listening tunes.

The plan again this year is to meet primarily on the 2nd and 4th Sundays throughout this practice season. In some cases, these dates coincide with performances. We expect to be performing for Yulefest (November 21-22) and Children's Christmas in Scandinavia (December 6) at the Nordic Heritage Museum, and perhaps December 13th for the Children's Christmas Party at Leif Erikson Lodge in Ballard.

Dancing is easier with smooth soles (such as leather or minimal tread that doesn't grip too much) and shoes that won't slip off during faster dances (such as those with open backs). Flip-flops or other sandals are not good, sneakers stick to the floor too much, and many girls' slip-ons tend to slip back off too easily.

Bring your friends!
