Applied Economics / AP Human Geography Baltimore Field Trip Project
Objective
The Students will observe exhibits at the Baltimore Museum of Industry, participate in a History Alive activity, take a walking tour of Fell’s Point and Little Italy utilizing Google Maps in order to create a presentation with www.prezi.com on the describing what industry(s) used to be prevalent, what industry(s) are prevalent in Baltimore today, and why new industries have located in Baltimore.
Preparation:
Before you embark on this trip please obtain one or all of these items to help you prepare your presentation:
1. A phone with Google Maps with Navigation and/or Google Earth Apps on an Internet enabled digital device. You will need it to utilize this Google map to navigate in Fell’s Point: http://goo.gl/maps/MAhxs[1]
2. A digital camera:
a. To document the industries that once existed in Baltimore that is celebrated in the Baltimore Museum of Industry.
b. To document WHAT defunct industries can be identified at certain locations and WHAT new industries have located in their place.
3. A video camera:
a. To document any information you feel is critical from the museum personnel.
b. To document what you find at certain locations and to document your GROUP’S THOUGHT PROCESS on WHY certain industries have located there.
Directions:
Create a PREZI[2] using digital information gathered by yourself or your group members which:
Offers an overview of the history of AT LEAST ONE industry that was important to the city of Baltimore prior to 1950 with photos and videos.
Offers an explanation of how and why that industry came to be located in Baltimore and its environmental impact with photos and videos.
Documents evidence of old industry in Fell’s Point in Baltimore with photos and videos.
Documents new industries that occupy the old industrial spaces in Fell’s Point with photos and videos.
Documents students theorizing WHY the industries found in Fell’s Point have located there with a video.
Offers further research and a conclusion about the validity of the theories offered during the visit to Fell’s Point with photos or videos.
