Modular Robotic System for Muscular Strength Training During Long-Term Space Missions

This project targets the problem of developing a compact and semi-autonomous robotic solution for addressing muscular atrophy for astronauts in long-term space missions. The proposed solution is based on the development of a modular robotic system that can be used to provide muscular strength training to astronauts. A modular robot is a system composed of modules that can be connected to each other to create different configurations.

The target application relates the use of the ModRED (Modular Robot for Exploration and Discovery) platform to create special configurations that can be used to exercise muscles while the system is inside the spaceship or the International Space Station (ISS). The capability of a system to be used simultaneously in different applications and tasks such as exploration of unknown environments and also as a muscular training system brings clear advantages in terms of payload criteria and versatility.
