Hi, welcome to my webpage! I'm a Cyber Security Scientist at ST Engineering, where I manage R&D projects (IoT/Industrial IoT/5G/Blockchain security and explainable AI for cybersecurity), work with the cybersecurity business team and manage relationships with IHL and corporate partners. I'm a member of the Working Group on Cybersecurity for Industrial Automation (CSIA), which is part of the Manufacturing Standards Committee of the Singapore Standards Council. My research has been published in well-known international journals (Elsevier Computers & Security) and conferences (IEEE WF-IoT, EAI SecureComm, PST, TrustCom). I also speak at reputed hacker conventions about our research sometimes.
Earlier, I was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the ST Engineering-Singapore University of Technology and Design Cyber Security Laboratory, working on the Predicting Adversarial Behaviors and the Motivation for Automated Network Defense project. There, I was part of an inter-discplinary team profiling cyber attackers and their motivations from a social/behavioral perspective, building experimental testbeds with vulnerabilities to collect data about hacker behavior and developing deep learning algorithms using graph embedding for anomaly detection towards cyber-attack identification in enterprise networks. I was also the Co-PI for a large scale CTF engagement for cyber attack data collection.
I hold a Ph.D. from the Dept. of Electrical and Computer Engineering, National University of Singapore. My thesis was entitled “Early Detection of Internet-of-Things Botnets” in which I designed a lightweight, modular solution employing machine learning-based algorithms for detection of IoT botnets at the network edge in the early stages of botnet propagation. I also assisted in teaching and conducting lab sessions for undergraduate students at NUS.
Broadly, my research interests revolve around network and distributed systems security (e.g., intrusion/anomaly/misuse detection), machine/deep learning for cyber security and privacy-aware system design. I was a part of the research group on "Internet-Of-Things and Industrial Control Systems" at NUS-Singtel Cyber Security R&D Laboratory. I was also associated with the Singapore Cybersecurity Consortium and have been an active user of National Cybersecurity R&D Laboratories and USC/ISI DeterLab testbeds in the past. My CV is available upon request.
