Dr.Witsanu Attavanich is an associate professor of Economics Department at the Faculty of Economics, Kasetsart University. He received his B.Sc. in Economics at Kasetsart University with the first-class honors and awarded gold medal. He received his MA in Economics at Thammasat University and Ph.D. in the field of environmental and resource economics at Texas A&M University (USA) in 2011. He pursued his postdoctoral training at Rutgers University (USA) and served as a visiting scholar of Summer Research Institute, Harris Manchester College, University of Oxford (UK).
Dr. Witsanu’s research focuses on policy analysis related to climate change, agriculture, energy, environment, food security, and development. His work has been published in leading international journals, including Nature Climate Change, American Journal of Agricultural Economics, and Land Use Policy. In terms of academic services, Dr. Witsanu has contributed his expertise to various national agencies. He has served as a member of the Board of Directors of the National Economic and Social Development Council, Office of the National Economic and Social Development Council (NESDC) and a member of the Board of Directors for Monitoring and Evaluating Science, Research, and Innovation Support, Thailand Science Research, and Innovation (TSRI). He currently serves as Assistant Editor for the academic journal Climatic Change, Associate Editor of the Kasetsart Journal of Social Sciences, and Co-Editor of the Applied Economics Journal.
Dr. Witsanu has received several prestigious awards, including the 2019 Puey Ungphakorn Award for outstanding young economists from the Puey Ungphakorn Institute, the Bank of Thailand 50th Anniversary Foundation, and seven leading Thai economics institutions; the 2024 Senior Research Scholar (Social Sciences) certificate and royal plaque from the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT); and the 2025 National Outstanding Teacher Award in Social Sciences from the Conference of University Faculty Senate of Thailand (CUFST). His collaborative research also received the 2016 Abraham Lincoln Honor Award for Increasing Global Food Security from the United States Department of Agriculture.
Presently, Dr. Witsanu is an Associate Professor, Deputy Dean for Research and Social Mission, and Director of Center for Applied Economics Research at the Faculty of Economics, Kasetsart University.
