About myself

A long due update.

I am now 24, and still have a love for vintage computing, but unfortunately my entire collection of vintage computers and electronics was lost in a fire in November of 2014, at the family home in WV. Whereas I still don't want to ruin the allure of computing in my career choices, I've been active in IT repair for 5 years in a workplace setting. I'm currently working with an e-recycling company, which puts me in regular contact with some Pentium 1 and up equipment. Each day I keep a close watch for anything 486 and under, but the Pentium 1 toughbooks and PII servers we frequently see come through are looking better every day that I don't have a truly vintage machine to work with. As time goes on, the cut-off date for vintage hardware will surely change, but for now, I have my heart set on Windows 3.11 and back. I've enjoyed my time in the IT field, solving hardware/software conflicts on many brands of machines, chasing down network issues, and working with servers on a regular basis. Whereas I still have no formal education in the field, I long to start night classes to increase my knowledge of programming as well as increase salary expectations.

For now, I'm living comfortably in Massachusetts, with my wife and our cojack(Corgi/Jack Rusell). I'm still tooling on my Jeep as much as I can, enjoying the rewards of pinpointing a problem, developing a plan of attack, then fixing the issue. Now that I've found employment with a company that respects my abilities and that is willing to allow growth within it, I look forward to delving into the world of vintage computing once more. For now, I try to stay sharp by reading through the few technical manuals I have left. If you have an AT&T 6300 you'd like to see go to a long-time enthusiast, please drop me a line.

Old intro:

Well, of course I must put a page telling about myself. My name is Jack R. Harvey and I am broadcasting this message from Sutton, WV. I am 16 years old. I started with the AT&T PC 6300 when I was 2 years old. Played games on it is about all. When I was 14 I saw an Apple ImageWriter II, Apple Color Monitor, and disks/manuals for an Apple IIc. Well I kicked off reading about MS-DOS and poking around the command prompt on my XP machine. I got in contact with my ex-step father Jim who gladly sent me a few AT&T PC 6300s of which I and the family used many moons ago. Well from there I started experimenting, learning, and reading every DOS manual I got my hands on. 2 years later I have what is considered the most complete AT&T PC 6300 known to the world to exist. I read and read and toil on the AT&T PC 6300, glorify it in every way I can, and would definitely label myself as obsessed. I cant keep from bidding on any AT&T PC 6300/6300 PLUS on the market. Every thing I can do on the PC 6300 I indeed use it for. I struggle to use the other computers in my collection. Getting better though, moving closer to the IBM 5150 every day. The 6300 will always have a spot in my heart, will always be my preferred computer, and I will always use and glorify it whenever possible.

I've been running a home business since November 10th, 2006. Sutton Systems, of which I repair, restore, and resell computers at cheap prices around town. Just something I do to fund my hobby and general spending, seems I dont have a job quite yet. I dont want to go commercial or anything, nor do I want to find a job in IT work. I dont want to make something fun into a work that I dread. Instead, it shall remain something I do with my spare time.

Well, thats about all I really feel the need to share about myself online. Got questions? Shoot me a line, Jackharveycan@gmail.com
