About Asoka Kumar Sen
An alumnus of Patna University, Dr. Asoka Kumar Sen taught History at Tata College Chaibasa, Jharkhand and retired from the same institution as University Professor in 2002. Dr. Sen received his Ph.D. degree in 1972 from Patna University on "The Role of the Middle Class Intelligentsia in the Growth of Nationalism in Bengal between 1800 and 1885" under Dr. K.K.Datta. He later shifted to the study of Tribal history of Jharkhand, with special focus on the Ho community. Presently an Independent Researcher, Dr. Sen is also the Editor of the online Journal of Adivasi and Indigenous Studies. He acted as the UGC Nominee for the SAP, Bengali Department, Jadavpur University, Kolkata entitled: "Eastern Indian Society, Culture, Literature & Language: A Comprehensive and Comparative Study (with special reference to the indigenous ethnic groups of this region)" during 2007-11. He is actively associated with local and outside scholars in promoting tribal studies. His other major engagement is the diffusion of consciousness on issues of general concern, particularly the marginalization of Kolhan and West Singhbhum and the people living there, through newspapers, seminars and workshops.
