International Symposium On Sustainable Development - SUSDEV 2022.
Del 5 al 7 de abril de 2022.
The so-called First Industrial Revolution of the mid-eighteenth century was responsible for an economic and social transformation, promoted by the change in the approach to industrial production. Later during the Second Industrial Revolution, between the 19th and early 20th centuries, the economy evolved from small-scale rural agriculture and handicrafts to the urban industry that is still prevalent today. Among other consequences, the industrial-based economic model of the 20th century has turned society into an entity dependent on industry.
Today, even though we live in an increasingly globalized world, with common problems such as overpopulation, lack of water resources, water, air and soil pollution, high rates of poverty, erosion of cultivation and grazing areas, among others, since the mid-twentieth century and mainly from the twenty-first century, the Third Industrial Revolution driven by the development of nanotechnology has begun to gain importance on a global scale.
The Third Industrial Revolution is characterized by 5 pillars:
1) The switch to renewable energy.
2) The conversion of buildings into power plants.
3) Hydrogen, rechargeable batteries, and other energy storage technologies.
4) Network Technology of “intelligent” electrical energy distribution.
5) Transportation based on all-electric vehicles, plug-in hybrids, regular electric hybrids, and fuel cells, using renewable electricity as propulsion energy.
The transformation of the production model became in the so-called circular economy. In Chile, sustainable processes based on circular economy have been gaining ground in the social, economic, and political life of our regions. The Symposium on Sustainable Development is part of this context, where invited plenary speakers will show a modern and synergistic vision that combines different natural sciences (chemistry, physics, and biology) to provide technological solutions to the sustainable development of certain areas of interest for industry in Chile.
