Asem Othman received the B.Sc. (Hons.) and M.Sc. degrees in Systems and Biomedical Engineering from Cairo University, Cairo, Egypt, in 2004 and 2008, respectively, and a Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from West Virginia University in December 2013. During 2014, he was a Post-Doc Researcher in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Michigan State University.
Dr. Othman is interested in the broad areas of synthetic identity, decentralized self-sovereign identity, machine learning, computer vision, and pattern recognition. His research interests are in biometrics, privacy-preserving biometric data, biometric image fusion, and mobile biometrics.
Dr. Othman was leading the R&D and testing efforts for 4-finger mobile biometrics (4FID) and developing anti-spoofing mechanisms. Also, he was leading efforts to de-identify stored biometric data. Before joining Veridium, Othman was a Researcher at the i-Probe Lab, supervised by Dr. Arun Ross, at West Virginia University and then at Michigan State University, where he conducted fundamental and applied research on topics including biometric mixing, Visual Cryptography, and Biometric Privacy-Preserving.
In February 2021, Dr. Othman joined Acuant, a leader in document verification, as Director of Computer Vision and Machine Learning.
In July 2023, Dr. Othman joined Jose Caldera and Bin Tang, and they founded Yanez Compliance
