Asem Othman received the B.Sc. (Hons.) and M.Sc. degrees in Systems and Biomedical Engineering from Cairo University, Cairo, Egypt, in 2004 and 2008, respectively, and a Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from West Virginia University in December 2013. During 2014, he was a Post-Doc Researcher in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Michigan State University.

Dr. Othman is interested in the broad areas of machine learning, computer vision, and pattern recognition. His current research interests are in biometrics, biometric data privacy-preserving, biometrics image fusion and mobile biometrics.

Dr. Othman was leading the R&D and testing efforts of using 4 fingers as mobile biometrics (4FID) and he is developing anti-spoofing mechanisms. Also, he was leading the efforts of de-identifying stored biometric data. Before joining Veridium, Othman was a Researcher at i-Probe Lab, supervised by Dr. Arun Ross, at West Virginia University and then at Michigan State University, where he conducted fundamental and applied research on various topics, including Mixing biometrics, Visual Cryptography, and Biometrics Privacy Preserving.

In February 2021, Dr. Othman joined Acuant, a document verification leader, as a Director of Computer Vision and Machine Learning.
