The Avon & Somerset Constabulary Bowls South team has evolved from the old Somerset Constabulary Bowls team that was established in 1951. The team plays other green bowling clubs in the old Somerset County geographical area. The fixtures are with clubs south of a line from Clevedon to Frome, and include Taunton, Porlock, Bridgwater, Weston Super Mare, Chard, Yeovil, Wells, Street, Castle Cary and others in the County.

Matches are played on a Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday afternoons every week during the months April to September each year, plus two Sunday triples matches. The season usually culminates with an internal Indoor Tournament with early supper.

Any person connected to any police force either as a serving or retired, regular or support officer is welcome to join.

There are many non police friends of the Avon & Somerset Constabulary who also support the team as playing members.

It is a pay as you play team with no joining or annual subscription charges.
