Laura Gilmartin, Fiber Artist

I began quilting after retiring in 2009.  I quickly realized piecing quilts was not where my talents lay.  Combining my love for painting and drawing with sewing, I now create one-of-a-kind art quilts.  Using inks, colored pencils, wax pastels, threads, fiber, quality fabrics and photographs, I strive to create depth that draws viewers in.

Don't Even Think About It!

Inspiration for this owl portrait came after viewing the photograph by Ken Conger (  His eyes just drew me in and I knew I had to create him. This quilt has yarns and roving to create the feathered look in addition to threads. His eyes and beak are hand painted and reverse appliqued. He measures 20" x 19".
