ARONOFF-SUSSMAN GENEALOGY PROJECT
ELLIS ISLAND NATIONAL MONUMENT
Welcome to the Aronoff-Sussman Genealogy Project which lays out the immigration story of our grandparents and constructs their family tree. We are pleased you are visiting our site. If any of your family or friends might be interested in this project, just send them this web address:
https://sites.google.com/site/aronoffsussmangenealogy
The project is composed of six parts:
¨ The Family Tree (SEE IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS BELOW)
¨ Photography Gallery (Hint: Try the "Slideshow" button in upper left)
In addition to the above sections, the report has many embedded “hot links” for immediate access to source documents and photographs related to the topic being read. Every link will open as a new screen in your browser to make switching back and forth as easy as possible.
FAMILY TREE INSTRUCTIONS: UPDATE (9/25/10) - We've done some testing and it appears that to see the full family tree you have to register at Geni.com. We've sent an "invitation" to all family members, which will be coming directly from Geni. Once you've registered you should then see the page as we describe below. After you accept the invitation and then click on "The Family Tree" link above, you will be brought to a "preview" page at Geni. You'll know it's the preview page as it will have a large photo of Barry on the right-hand side of the screen. The abbreviated tree you see on the left of that preview page does not contain any last names, and does not have the full navigation tools. At this page you should click on the word "Tree" to the right of the word "Home" at the top left of the page that opens as a preview (see example immediately below for location of the word "Tree".) Registration at Geni.com will give you the ability to independently expand your own branches of the family tree.
As you navigate the family tree you'll see some members have a number within a green treetop in their upper right corner (see Roberta and Jennifer below.) This is an indication they have additional branches of their family tree which can be viewed by clicking on the treetop. To see a tree that really stretches back generations, click on the "green treetop" above Jennifer and follow the treetops back through her dad Frank Moser's mother's branch all the way to 1525. Kimberly Poppe, our cousin Margaret (Peggy) Poppe's daughter, has also done an excellent job of tracing her father's branch back to the mid-1650s. At a young age she may be our most accomplished genealogist. Addendum (December 2010): Kimberly has now traced her father's family back to the mid-1200s!
