My Lab Learning-based Decision Making Lab (LDML) at NJIT has 4 Ph.D. students, 1 MS student, and 1 high-school student right now. In the past, the lab has hosted 2 high-school students under the HSSRI program. The lab has hosted 2 undergraduate students under HIT-NJIT program during the summer of 2024 and 2025. The brief bios of the current students are in the following:
Sourav Ganguly: Sourav is a doctoral researcher in Computer Engineering at the New Jersey Institute of Technology, working under the guidance of Dr. Arnob Ghosh since Fall 2024. His research focuses on bridging the gap between simulation and reality in Markovian environments, spanning areas such as natural language processing, computer vision, reinforcement learning, stochastic control, and robust decision-making under uncertainty. He holds a Master’s degree in Computer Science with a specialization in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence from IIT Dharwad, along with a brief stint at IIT Bombay. He is a four-time GATE qualifier—Computer Science (2020, 2021, 2023) and Data Science (2024)—and a recipient of the prestigious DDFS fellowship from BARC. His work has been published in premier venues, including NeurIPS, and CDC. He has also served as a reviewer in premier ML conferences. He earned his B. Tech in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from IIIT Bhubaneswar, and has industry experience at Amazon (Echo Voice UI) and EY GDS (Cybersecurity). Outside of research, he enjoy reading, singing, playing cricket, soccer, and volleyball, cooking, acting, mimicry, and exploring detective fiction and thrillers, with the long-term goal of becoming a leading data scientist.
Kartik Pandit: Kartik Pandit is a PhD student in Computer Engineering at the New Jersey Institute of Technology, advised by Dr. Arnob Ghosh since Fall 2024. His research domain lies at the intersection of Large Language Models (LLMs), hardware accelerator design, and AI safety. He hold san MS in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Florida, USA, and a Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering from Pune University, India. Professionally, he has worked as a Software Engineer at Allianz Technology in India, as well as in roles involving machine learning, data science, and software development across both academia and industry. Outside of work, he enjoys singing, playing cricket, dancing, reading comics (especially MCU), playing chess, soccer, cooking, and traveling.
Siamak Beikzadeh: Siamak Beikzadeh is a PhD student at the ECE Department of NJIT since Fall 2025. Hi research interests broadly span reinforcement learning (RL), computer networks, advanced multimedia networks, and streaming algorithms. Prior to joining NJIT, he was a researcher affiliated with the MONeT group at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), where he collaborated on learning and optimization problems at the intersection of theory and systems. He received my B.S. in Computer Science from the University of Tabriz and Sharif University of Technology. He received M.S. degree in Computer Networks from Amirkabir University of Technology with a focus on blockchain technologies and advanced computer networks. He has also received Master of Science degree from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Siamak enjoys playing electric guitar, exploring complex music theory, and tackling challenging problem-solving tasks. Hi primary goal is to work on important problems in my field and develop solutions that have a meaningful and lasting impact.
Shilpa Mukhopadhyay: Shilpa is a Ph.D. student in the ECE Department of NJIT since Spring 2026. Shilpa is interested in developing reinforcement learning algorithms that offer robust theoretical guarantees, with a primary focus on bridging the gap between mathematical proofs and real-world robotics. She brings a diverse background in reinforcement learning for autonomous driving, alongside extensive experience in both classical and data-driven robotics within research and industrial settings. She received her Bachelor’s degree from the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Rourkela and her Master of Science from Texas A&M University. Outside of research, Shilpa enjoys dancing, reading, stitching, practising music, and cooking.
Brandon Knight: Brandon Knight his doing his MS thesis under Dr. Ghosh's guidance. His research interests are in Robotics, Automation, Machine Learning, AI. He has obtained his B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from NJIT
Saisha Pal: Saisha Pal is a student at theDougherty Valley High School (Class of 2027), San Ramon, California, USA. Saisha is passionate about mathematics, data science, and community impact. Under Dr. Ghosh’s guidance, she is working on reinforcement learning and mathematical reasoning in large language models. Beyond her research, she authored a 14-page literature review on mental health challenges in the juvenile justice system (published by AIM) and founded the AIM Youth Mental Health Ambassadors Club at her school, where she focuses on developing digital solutions for early intervention. She also co-hosts a youth mental health podcast. Her research on LLM mathematical evaluation has been invited for presentation at UCLA, and her mental health advocacy work has been invited for presentation at Harvard University.
