The Club offers classes designed to “train the trainer”, giving you the tools to develop the type of relationship from which both you and your dog will benefit. These classes include basic obedience instruction, how to deal with common behavioural issues, how to develop your dog's proprioception and improve your dog's physical condition and trick-training. Our training philosophy is one of play. The classes are offered in 6 week blocks. All dogs new to the club commence with our foundation block of 6 weeks. At the conclusion of the first 6 weeks, dogs and their owners will have the option to commit to a further 6 weeks, either to continue to develop the skills they have learnt or progress on to a more challenging level of training. The advanced classes will also offer the opportunity to develop the skills required to commence beginner's agility training.
Dog Agility is a sport open to all dogs and is the fastest growing of the dog sports Most breeds, from toys like the Chihuahua to giant breeds, like the Great Dane, can be suitable for Agility.
Agility is a fun way for dogs and handlers to get fit together. Dogs are required to negotiate obstacles such as the tyre, tunnels, weaving poles, jumps and contact equipment like the A frame, dog walk and see saw.
Obstacle jump heights are suited to the dogs, with jumps set at 200mm, 300mm, 400mm, 500mm or 600mm, depending on the height of the dog at the withers.
Be aware that a few breeds may not be suitable for Agility. It is also advisable not to train overweight dogs or dogs with joint problems without consulting your vet first. Dogs must be 12 months of age before commencing formal equipment training but our advanced foundation class will work on the basic handling skills required for agility.
