About me

Me and my daughter in Lares, Puerto Rico

The English pronunciation of my first and last name is something like 'ah-ray-ns' 'peh-lie-yo'.  You can find the origin and IPA pronunciation of it  here. Though I'm actually from the U.S. (South Florida), I was raised Puerto Rican and Catalan and am a second generation immigrant. I visit family in Puerto Rico and Spain as often as possible.

Before doing graduate work in Chicago, I received my BA at the University of South Florida in Tampa. I majored in Philosophy with a minor in Linguistics (which still deeply fascinates me thanks to Prof. Amanda Huensch).  Aside from admin and philosophy work, I enjoy running, going to the beach, writing poetry (esp. haikus), and learning new things.
