Architectural Portraits
Fritz Kapraun returns to LaRomita for his 8th workshop. Workshops are conducted near Terni (Umbria) Italy. Terni, birthplace of St. Valentine, is about 2 hours north of Rome, 30 minutes south of Spoleto and 90 minutes from Assisi.
Students of all experience levels and media interests are welcome. Artists using oil and acrylic can find supplies in near-by Terni. Print studio facilities are available. Fritz will give studio and plein air instruction in watercolor covering basic techniques and principles including composition and values, 3-dimensional drawing and painting, color choices, color harmonies and color temperature. Fritz uses individual and small group plein air demonstrations to help students capture local mood and color in sketches to be further developed in the studio. He will hold frequent studio demonstrations and friendly, supportive critiques.
The workshop offers many opportunities for non-painters! Typically, about 1/3 of our participants are non-artists and/or accompanying persons. The daily field-trips include commentary on architecture and history as the group follows the Via Flaminia, the old Roman Road, through Narni, Carsulae, Spoleto and Bevagna. You will experience local cultural events such as open air concerts, wine-tasting, medieval festivals, market days and a visit to Europe’s largest waterfall.
If you ask nicely, the La Romita cooks will demonstrate traditional pasta making and use of day-old bread in recipes. And yes, both a 'La Romita' cook book and olive oil from the 16th century La Romita olive grove are for sale!
Fritz has recently moved to Magdalena New Mexico and has started La Posada B&B and Art Gallery
Fritz was recently featured in the Wrightsville Beach Magazine (go to p38)
