This former store is thought to date to the 1890s. If this is correct, the building would be one of the two oldest two story frame commercial buildings in Archer and also of great significance to the entire county as well.
This building may have been C. W. Bauknight's general store, but it is unlikely this is his first store building. The new depot may have been built by 1893 and he could have built this larger building for his store shortly afterward. The C. W. Bauknight store was in operation until at least 1907. The J. E. Wells store was in business by 1911 and it did operate out of this building. By 1925, J. A. Roberts had his general goods store here, but by 1927, J. C. Pons operated his general store here.
This building was also Archer's first movie house. Mrs. Hittup Maddox showed movies at her Picture Hall on the second floor as early as 1919. She was also on the city council that year and this building was designated as the council meeting place.
The Archer Masonic Lodge has used this building as their clubhouse for over 60 years.
