The Ancient and Primitive Rite of Memphis & Misraïm is a leading depository within Freemasonry of Masonic Tradition.
In Freemasonry, often there is mention about initiatic, esoteric work, esotericism and spirituality. But the proper process of initiation, in modern Freemasonry, often comes down to the opening and closing of the Lodge and the presentation of some lectures. It is easy to understand that an initiation cannot be limited to participation, once or twice a month, in the rituals of opening and closing the Lodge, and listening to a lecture or a charge, as informative as these may be.
However, the Rite of Memphis & Misraïm aims to give life to true esoteric work, which accords with the aims of Freemasonry. It draws from the spiritual and esoteric essence of Freemasonry and concludes its action to maintain and safeguard the integrity of the Masonic spirituality. Spirituality, understood in a secular sense, in which the reason is indeed essential and must support the spirit without overpowering.
