Physical characteristics to consider
- Adequacy of windows.
- Shading
- Dark interior colors
- Views - range
- No views, close in enclosed walls
- Urban view, wall, other buildings, very limited or no sky view
- Urban view, but with decent sky view, no nature view
- Urban with modest nature view, some trees, grass, plants, water feature (view of small park)
- Strong nature view, trees and or water feature but close in view (like an atrium)
- Strong nature view including distant views
- Strong nature view, including distant views, upper floor location

- Illuminance (foot candles / lux)

Physical characteristics to consider
- Illumination metrics (contrast ratios, illuminance - footcandles, etc.)
- Use of daylighting (architectural features; daylighting controls, etc.)
- Daylighting extent (range from worst to best) - can be characterized in terms of fraction of area or work stations with the various levels of daylighting
- Enclosed office/room with no windows visible
- Open space or (internal) windowed but only views to the rest of the building interior
- Open space or internal windows with distant (>30’) views of exterior, no direct daylighting to task level
- Open space or offices with views of windows and modest level task level indirect daylighting
- Open space or offices with views to outside , good daylight task lighting
- Open space or offices with views, direct sun, strong daylighting part of the day
