About Us

We're located in the heartland of America in rural Marshalltown, Iowa on 170 acres of gently rolling hills and timber, not far from the Iowa River.  Acres of soybeans and corn surround the farm in the summer and a white blanket of snow masks the ground in the winter.  No matter the season beauty abounds here.

Appelgate Goldens started a long time ago from a dream a young boy had.  He wanted a golden retriever just like his dad's golden.  After looking and saving his money the young boy had enough to buy a puppy.  He had his dad help him pick out a puppy that would have the bloodlines to hunt pheasants for them on their hunting trips.  He also wanted good bloodlines so he could have a litter of puppies later on if the time was right.  A few years later Rose had her first litter of puppies and Appelgate Goldens was born.  That was in 2004 and we're working harder than ever now to raise the highest quality puppies.  We farm for a living raising corn and soybeans and pigs, because of this we're not a commercial kennel just a small family-run business.  We pride ourselves in selling puppies that have been raised with lots of attention to socializing the puppies and sending them to homes ready to become part of a family.

Taylor and I (Kaleb) run the day-to-day operations at our home and we're likely the ones you'll meet and talk to. We have four "Chiefs of Humility and Quality Control" (our kiddos).  Translation: they remind us that we are often proud, stubborn, and selfish and we need to be more humble, gentle, and servant-minded. We can guarantee your puppies will come WELL accustomed to small children!  The time that we as a family spend with the puppies allows us to initmately know the personalities of each individual puppy, we feel this is a great advantage to helping us put the right puppies in the right homes!
