Dear AP students,
I am sure you are feeling anxious and apprehensive about the new school year ! I too feel that way. 2020 is like no year before and so we have to work together to assuage our fears to conquer this year and emerge victorious :) In an effort to begin conversations about this year and what you can do to prepare, I will have a 30 minute zoom call today. If you read this message, join me in a zoom call at 4:30 pm today.

SUMMER HOMEWORK
_________________________________________
Welcome prospective AP Biology students. Get familiar with this web page. I will post any relevant material and links to videos so as to prepare you for the diagnostic test when you come back to school. You will review the following chapters from your Hons curriculum. If you do not have access to a book, you can use the Open Stax books available on this website to study. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me at anusarkar@gmail.com
This is what you are responsible for knowing in order to do well for the Diagnostic test. The textbook does not matter. I am expecting your knowledge at the Biology honors curriculum level.
Introduction to Biology
Chemistry of life
Water and its role in Life
Carbon and Molecular diversity of life
Structure and function of Macromolecules
Cell ( prokaryotic and Eukaryotic structures)
Membrane structure and Function
All of this comprise of the material taught in the first 10 weeks of Biology Honors.
I would suggest you buy a second hand version of the Campbell, Biology 7th edition ( or buy it from one of my former students, you can buy any edition you get for cheap) from Amazon The used version of the book is about $10-14 and good to have so that you can annotate or highlight it. This will help you prepare for the test. This is the bare minimum you must know before you come in to this class so as to be successful for this fast paced college level class.
REQUIRED MATERIAL
3- Ring binder( at least 1 inch) divided into four parts using dividers/Tabs ( lecture notes, handouts, assignments, and corrected quizzes)
Composition note book, college ruled. Make sure this is stitched and not a spiral bind book. These are usually a $1 each and black and white.
Blue/black pen for tests & lecture ( work turned in red, fluorescent or metallic pen will not be accepted), pencil for data books
Metric ruler- make sure you get a good plastic one, not metal or wooden.
Set of colored highlighters/markers
A folder to carry notes home
