I have been working on concepts of the Adler Engel Series for a couple of years, mostly in fits and starts. Bottom line is I haven't MADE the time to pull all my notes and research together, then pare it down into a single "first" story. As with "An Uncomfortable Silence", when not writing, the mostly lovable characters live constantly in my imagination...and its getting awfully crowded in there! Ideas for their exploits fill the pages of my little black moleskine which accompanies me always.
So what or who is Adler Engel?
The Series' protagonist, Adler Engel, is a "quiet, peace-seeking man" who, after inheriting a Chicago area precision machine shop started by his father and grandfather, moves himself and the business to the small Wisconsin town of Fontana, on the west end of Geneva Lake. Adler plants roots and tries to slow down. You see, Adler has a simple desire to live and let live. This life-philosophy is in stark contrast, however, to the nearly ten years he spent in black ops...a life he desperately wants to leave in his past.
Adler works hard at his business and employs an entertaining group of characters that run the gamut from techno-geeks and tatoo-layered bikers, all of whom come together to create a very tight and very protective extended family to each other.
When not working, Adler's interests include the never ending restoration of his beloved, if not-yet-sea-worthy, 1932 Chris-Craft 59 runabout; training for occasional endurance running or triathlon events; bow hunting; great beer; and the occasional female companion.
Much to Adler's chagrin, his attempt at living a bucolic lifestyle is inexplicably interrupted at the most inopportune times (is there really ever an opportune time for interruptions...I mean really??) by a host of very bad people. The antagonist's death-strewn paths cross with Adler's, triggering his latent "special talents and instincts". Why is it that trouble always seems to find Adler and his merry band of misfits...or is it the other way around? It is a ponderous thing my friends and here is where I add, you'll have to read the stories and form your own opinion ...:o) Ha! Coming Soon...
