The project was carried out by students in the Tropical Field Biology class (BIOL 5325) of the University of Utah from 4-10 May 2014.
MiniWinkler samples were taken on 6 May 2014, near the juncture of Ajo and Ocelot trails, where sampling had been done before. Six groups of two people each were distributed at 50m intervals along the trail. Each group sighted due west with a hand-held compass, laid out transects with tape measure, and took ten miniWinkler samples at 5m intervals. Sampling took from about 9am to 11:30am. The weather was overcast and there was a light sprinkle of rain during the last 30 minutes of the sampling period. Samples were returned to lab, left in 6 buckets in shade for an hour, and then hung in a shed covered with translucent plastic sheeting. All samples were hung by about 2:30pm. Samples were taken off on 9 May 2014, late afternoon.
GPS readings were taken at beginning and end of each transect.
Transect 1. Start: 8.40821, -83.32737. End: 8.40831, -83.32766.
Transect 2. Start: 8.40788, -83.32754. End: 8.40788, -83.32783.
Transect 3. Start: 8.40737, -83.32763. End: 8.40745, -83.32808.
Transect 4. Start: 8.40709, -83.32774. End: 8.40701, -83.3283.
Transect 5. Start: 8.40652, -83.3279. End: 8.40654, -83.32839.
Transect 6. Start: 8.4062, -83.32803. End: 8.40614, -83.32852.
For specimen locality data, GPS starting points of transects were used and sample points were assumed to be at 5m intervals due west from the starting point.
Approximate spatial orientation of 60 sample points.
