The everyday mirror we think of today is a product of over 2500 years of development towards mirrors. The first mirrors were made of Obsidian, a volcanic glass-like rock, around 600 B.C.E around present day Turkey. In early history mirrors were only affordable to the rich, as are most things in there early lives.
And what it reflects, light, has changed the course of human history. When we refer to light we refer to the the waves of the electromagnetic spectrum. Light is an extremely useful wave that we use everyday, life without it would be seemingly impossible. We use them to heat our food up to sending signals to looking at our bones. Light has 7 different classifications Radio waves, Micro waves, Infrared Waves, Visible Light, Ultra Violet Waves, X ray waves, and Gamma waves. Each have there own special use, such as X rays to see our bones, and Radio waves to send almost instantaneous messages.
With out light you could no longer make phone calls, warm your food in a Microwave, or even see. Light is now even being harnessed to create an clean alternative for fossil fuels. We are more dependent on light than we give it credit for, we take it for granted, but never appreciate its importance and splendor. Without light life as WE know it would be impossible, we are a society dependent on light in all its forms.
