Annotated Bibliography Guidelines

Annotated Bibliography Criteria

  • All sources should be fully and properly cited and then annotated in an Annotated Bibliography.

  • Annotated Bibliography-

    • MLA formatted:

        • Times New Roman

        • 12 point font

        • Double space

        • 1 inch margins

        • ALL CITATIONS IN MLA 9

  • Alphabetized (by first word in each citation)


  • An annotated bibliography is a list of sources with a description and/or analysis of each source

      • Annotated bibliographies can be very detailed (multiple paragraphs for each source) or more general (brief description and/or analysis of the article)

  • Common structure of an annotated bibliography:

      • TWO PARAGRAPHS for each annotation:

          • Paragraph 1:SUMMARY of the article (discussion of why source is credible)

          • Paragraph 2: Your ASSESSMENT of how the article is relevant to your assignment (what is the key takeaway from the source)
