Teaching Philosophy
My training and teaching is grounded in classical music. I provide students with strong fundamentals in theory and technique so that they can pursue music that engages and motivates them. I encourage students to pursue their musical interests in all genres of music. My goal is to lead my students toward a lifelong relationship with music.
Curriculum
Curricula are developed with the individual student in mind and may include such elements as note reading, technique, theory, ear-training, memorization, posture, stage presence, and poise. In addition, a variety of musical styles will be explored to keep the student motivated.
For young children, I start with the "Faber Piano Adventures" series. These books are fun and engaging, are popular with young children, and they make it easy for parents to get involved.
For more advanced students, I can help design curricula based on musical interests and objectives.
Research shows that playing the piano develops the following skills:
Coordination
Creativity
Fine motor skills
Focus
Performance at school and work
Problem solving
Reading and math skills
Self-esteem
Self-motivation
