Goals Worth Doing

Goals Worth Doing

Guide written by: Ani.

The aim of this guide is to provide suggestions on which goals are worth doing based on the following assumptions:

Note:

A note to portal collectors: just because a goal in an area doesn't give portal, does not mean there aren't other ways (AQ or otherwise) to get a portal in the same area.

Levels 1-25

Academy – If for some reason you skipped the academy training half way through, got impatient or whatever, maybe you should finish it just to get it out of the way and have a level 1 area portal to the area.

Amusement – those of you who like to do quests, campaigns and even compete in global quests sometimes, it might help to have this goal done as it gives you free and quick access to the rides inside the area. Often, global quest and campaign targets have mobs inside the rides.

Legend – for a nice little portal to the area.

Graveyard – many mobs such as ghouls, ghasts, zombies, skeletons are frequent campaign and global quest targets in the low level ranges. The problem with them is, they appear only during night and that might make a difference between a win and loss during a global quest or make campaigning less efficient while having to wait for them to appear. Doing the goal in this area gives you access to the “RIP” command to use at each grave to make them appear during the day so you can do your campaign or global quest.

Callhero – although not used often, this can be useful for a low level quest sitter as many campaign targets, etc are located in the area.

Petstore – worth doing it for its portal reward. It can take you to zoo, where campaigns and global quests often like to set targets to.

Kobaloi – saves a measly amount of gold but also saves the hassle of having to buy and carry around passport to wander in the area.

Terramire – access to full area inside and shortcuts back to entrance.

Levels 26-50

Necromancer – saying 'crypt' will allow you quicker access into the crypt section of necromancer's guild.

Atlantis – probably not much use if you have the passdoor wish or some form of pass door to get through the entrance, but the guard will automatically unlock the door for you if you are visible.

Bazaar – Gartas near the entrance will not attack you and the guard will not assist him either. Saves hassle of having to flee every time you have a quest, campaign or global quest.

Landofoz – this area is an excellent place for leveling and gold farming in the early levels. The only problem is, the mobs that give good XP and gold are beyond some aggressive mobs across the storm. You can get an easy shortcut to the other parts of the area from entrance (typing “oz” or “wizard”) if you complete this goal.

Reme – the stocky reman centurion will not attack you after the goal. For the number of campaigns and quests that go to Reme during the early levels, that mob can be a hinderance. He can however, be snuck past with invisibility/sneak, so if you are somehow skill or equipment disadvantaged, you can do this goal to get rid of the nuisance.

Wooble – as of Dec 1st, 2013 this reboot-only portal is no longer reboot-only. It has a history of being sold for at least 20 million in market. Why pay tens of millions of gold when you can just do the goal to get it?

Levels 51-100

Kingsholm – due to a somewhat recent change, the keys dropped by the mobs in the seals' area are melt-drop now. As a result, players cannot drop keys in the rooms anymore to allow easy access to themselves or others in the future. There is a way to get by this, if you have a private manor and a container to store spare keys in, but that's a lot of keys to save up and carry. Doing the goal will allow you to progress through the seals by typing “next” without having to carry keys!

Citadel – the portal reward is not rot-death unlike regular version. Might be nice for those who often forget to put portals away in containers.

Songpalace – shortcuts to different sections of the area inside from entrance.

Deneria – the portal is nice to have.

Knossos – portal reward and it's close to several areas - Knossos, Ancient Greece, Stuff of Shadows, and Seven Wonders. Portal can be obtained without opening the goal by simply following AQ steps.

Ruins1-3 – there are three 'sections' in ruins of diamond reach. One is the very entrance/top level where you can fight a temporal crystal to be teleported to the second part, and in the maze of the second part there's a second temporal crystal you can fight to reach the third part. If you complete the entire ruins series, you can get a neutralizer shard (from ruins1) that can take you directly to the third part from the entrance level without having to fight any crystals. There is also a saveable portal reward upon doing ruins3 which can be altered to land in a favorable location.

Hawklord – The door to the mines area in hawklord has a tricky way to unlock it. You have to kill one guard, obtain its weapon and uniform, wear it and kill a second guard to get the key. This can be a time waster during campaigns and global quests. Doing this goal will let you stop the guards from destroying keys: "You block the guard's attempt to throw the key over the cliff."

Illoria – portal reward

Losttime – portal reward that is not farmable at the moment. May be done upon tiering though. (to be confirmed)

Snuckles – possible portal reward. Goal is repeatable to try get portal again if you don't.

Northstar/Northstar2 – allows access to a very nice leveling, gold farming areas for evil and good aligned players, respectively.

Siege1/Siege2 - siege2 needs to be opened before siege1, but siege1 needs to be completed before siege2. Completion of siege1 gives area shortcuts within the area, and completion of siege2 will allow you to pass by the blue and red runes at the castle doors without having to take a detour. There are other bonuses in addition to these.

Tombs – relinquished tombs replaces the old area (stonekeep) and the completed goal will give you access to several shortcuts within the area. The area is also norecall and noportal almost entirely. After the goal is done, you will be able to type 'leave' anywhere in the area to be transferred to the entrance. This is especially useful.

Levels 101-150

Insanitaria – unrepeatable portal reward. People likely won't sell it either because it comes with the donated flag.

Prosper/Prosper2 – Prosper is NOT a pre-requisite for prosper2 but it will allow you to kill sycorax the witch by wearing a knot (from lem-dagor goal?) without the hassle of collecting all 4 balls to stop her from healing. Prosper2 gives an owned portal to the island part of prosper island (share ownership). This can save millions of gold on the market, especially if you'll do the goal eventually anyway. Also, doing prosper2 will stop thieves from attacking you in the island (marshals still attack evil-aligned people, however).

Darklight – portal reward

Masq – unrepeatable portal reward. It can be bought on market but due to its rarity it will end up costing a lot. Not only that, but campaigns and global quests in the area's range often send players to either the mansion or the ballroom section, both locations are time dependent and mutually exclusive. The goal will provide shortcuts to both sections regardless of the time.

Scarred - if you find killing dragon snakes for heads (to give to pete) and killing persistent miner for pick (to give to wounded miner) tedious every time, doing this goal will let you get free kegs from pete if you walk in (have to be visible).

Stuff of shadows – the magister/manager will escort you inside for free.

Agroth – the goal is unrepeatable to get the portal reward, which is level 95 (10 levels lower than the regular portal ‘a chip of willow bark')

Stronghold – area portal. Possibly obtainable without doing the goal.

Gilda – area portal if you help Gilda.

Talsa – Progressing through the goal will help you get two area portals. You can get more of them for yourself later. More importantly, instead of having to kill around for multiple items just so you can access other sections temporarily, you can also pay a small amount of gold to get to the inner levels of Conadrain and Moricand.

Desertdoom – Area portal. Not repeatable.

Livingmine – this is a precursor to the Empyrean goal, which provides a very nice leveling area once finished.

Quarry – access and shortcut to a leveling area (caves). Mobs in there also drop ores which can be useful for blacksmiths.

Uprising - only worth completing if you start it. This is due to mobs in the city section kicking you out to the start while the goal is open, which can make campaigns, global quests and quests a nuisance.

Xmas – Snowman by entrance will no longer aggro you. Very useful for people with multiple remorts as they are no longer restricted by level to enter areas and as a low level player after remorting, accidentally walking in to the zone can be fatal.

Arboretum – travelling through the custom exits can be a pain due to requiring special objects. Completing this goal allows you to skip that with shortcuts.

Levels 151-201

Several goals in this range have portal rewards so I'll list them first:

Annwn – Released on April 4, 2014 this area can be a major hassle to explore at first because you need to buy a mask from the innkeeper every time you want to explore deeper for quests or campaigns. Completing the goal gives you shortcuts to say to the ferryman to each sub-part of the area.

Avian – typing kneel at entrance will transfer you to the shrine. This can save a lot of walking.

Cougarian – Might not make a huge difference but once you reach the Cougarian Queendom area, you have to carry a dictionary if you want to move from the medic's tent. Doing the goal lets you move about without carrying a dictionary.

Desolation – typing “secret tunnels” at entrance gives you access to several shortcuts within the area.

Empyrean – Full access to the area. This place makes a great leveling area at 170+ range. No longer have to wear a peasant's tunic to enter either. As a result, there's no risk of being thrown into the room full of aggressive guards.

Nottingham – once the goal is done, you can find Shakey Speare in the forest and say "camp" to be transferred to the camp. This saves time looking for the clearing, entering bridge and killing John Little.

Oceanpark – Useful custom exits that lead to the merdevil part.

Radiance Woods - Area shortcut from entrance to go to the market and back. However, you have to use an item given from the goal.

Rebellion of the Nix – several areas can be accessed after the goal is complete. Some campaign targets in the upper levels are located in areas that require you to have progressed to a certain stage of the goal.

Stormhaven – would not recommend lower tiered and/or untrained players to attempt this goal as the end boss is very difficult and hits quite hard. However if you do manage to complete the goal, you can say black, white or shadow at the room 1e of entrance to be transferred to the corresponding castles. The regular castle mobs won't attack you either. It is likely that by the time you are able to complete this goal, you will be used to the aggressive mobs around the castle and taking the long routes to the castles anyway so the shortcuts gained won't seem like much of a benefit. But I still listed this goal here because of the shortcuts it provides.

Werewood – A very easy goal AND its reward is worth it. Mobs in the area have a habit of biting you and forcing you to wear a lycanthropic aura (a very bad item) in your regular aura location (aard aura for example). Completing the goal prevents that.

Arguably Useful Goals

Xyl's Mosaic – the goal is time consuming, confusing and can be frustrating if certain steps don't go well, especially if you lack the patience. The reward is an owned area portal, but if you don't have the patience, it might be worthwhile to buy an unowned one from market.

Nenukon – it provides an area shortcut to the tribe you belong in, however it also has a chance to teleport you to the Monuhi! So this shortcut isn't guaranteed to work all the time but might be worth it occasionally.

FT2 – a VERY long goal that can be highly frustrating, even with a walkthrough. There is a good chance the goal will have to be repeated from start to finish multiple times, because until you get the Sea King's Portal (SKD) reward, the goal will not close. The SKD portal takes you to Sea King's Dominion, which is a superhero area. Mobs are possibly very tough to begin with, and as such, the reward isn't all that useful unless you want to get some rooms explored for your percentage count, sell it for a lot of money, or even pup there on a regular basis for a lot of gold. For now, you can even borrow a friend's portal to get the rooms explored so this goal may not be worth doing. On the other hand, if you want to keep your own portal and are obsessed with collecting them, then by all means, do it. Just don't blame this guide for telling you to open it :)

Typing "goals" in the game will show you the total list of goals YOU can do. This list will vary for every person because "hidden goals" do not show up on goals list until they're opened. The "goals done" command checks goals from levels 1 - 201, and doesn't include goals that are level 0 or don't have level assigned (such as Animaltribe/tracker of Nenukon). Typing "goals 0 201" will show you the actual list of all goals (minus any hidden ones you haven't opened).

A common misconception about "second" goals is, they're thought to be hidden goals. Not all "second" goals are hidden. Wyrm2, Sanctum2, are not hidden. They appear on the goals list whether you have them open or not. Ft2 is not hidden and it even has a separate area.

There are three pseudo-goals in the game currently: Lidnesh2, Wyrm3-6, and [animal]tribe (animal being the side you get assigned to after doing Nenukon goal). These goals are trackers that remember which side you pick during the main area goals (lidnesh, wyrm/wyrm2, nenukon respectively) and do not have real tasks assigned to complete them. Including these three pseudo-goals (animaltribe/nenukon is not on list because it's level 0), there should be a total of 244 goals currently, in the game. If there are more, I've yet to find them.

The following table will list all of the goals that I know of (real goals only. no pseudo-goals), sorted by levels. Goals highlighted in this color indicate portal-reward goals, to easily distinguish from other goals.

*note: Nenukon, and Helegear goals aren't highlighted because Nenukon's portal is no-save and Helegear's portal is limited-use. They're also obtainable before opening the goals, so they aren't really goal rewards.
