If you had to choose a theme for Clark & Meyers principles of e-learning design, it would have to be "Less is More." The screenshots below show courses with that were created using HTML coding to embed apps and video, at a time when LMS platforms did not make this easy. Tables are used to ensure a pleasing and readable layout.
In addition, the screenshots also demonstrate the Multimedia Principle, wherein adding graphics to words can improve learning. The key to adding useful graphics and multimedia is to also follow the Redundancy Principle and avoid graphics with audio and redundant text. In both screenshots the text introduces a content concept which is reinforced or explained by the app/video. The app/video does not repeat the information in the text. (Click images to view larger.)
In terms of curriculum design, the videos and apps allow for diverse learners to have the same access to the concepts being taught by offering the information in multiple modalities. In addition, the activities were chosen based on the course outcomes set during the backwards design process.
