The images below demonstrate the pedagogical best practice of having learning objectives at the beginning of and end of each content concept. In a short course I place them at the beginning and end of the entire course. However, in longer courses, an overall objective at the beginning is accompanied by specific objectives at the beginning of each new concept covered, or each new unit / module.
It should be noted that the objective and the ending review of the objective are both written at an appropriate level for the learner and reflect outcomes established at the beginning of the backwards design process.
Finally, adding objectives to a course simplifies incorporation of the "Segmentation Principle," in that the learner will be able to easily determine the beginning and end of each learning segment. (Click images at right to view larger.)
