To better understand and study the feeding and nutrition of ruminants, and particularly of the dairy cow, the Animal Nutrition Unit follows a holistic approach to the rumen, which includes the following research lines:
1) Valorization of new feedstuffs for ruminants, particularly new protein sources
2) Understanding rumen function to improve ruminant nutrition and production
3) Modulation of feeding strategies to increase animal nutrient efficiency use
4) Mitigation of ruminant methane emissions and of nitrogen excretion
5) Dietary valorization of milk, dairy products and meat fat content and fatty acid composition
6) Increase the health-promoting components of ruminant edible products
7) Identification of new biomarkers and development of non-invasive techniques to study the rumen function
8) Development of innovative and eco-friendly analytical methods in animal nutrition
