Family Tradition

From an Email of Reuben's great grandson Doug and wife Judy Hartley:

"OK the only thing we have on Reubin, is story's past down word of mouth through the family, mostly from Lowell, Doug's dad. So the story goes Reubin was in the Civil War at the time he met Margaret, he was a scout for the Army, she was adopted by a family named Slayers when she was about three years of age, it was said her father worked on the Slayers farm, but was killed in a farm accident, that's when the adoption took place, remember Reubin was Lowell's granddad! he new him first hand, so we just naturally thought that the storys were true! it was also said that Margaret and she father were American Indian but when we had Doug's DNA done no Indian blood showed-up, thought that was odd! "
